[at-l] My Mem Day Weekend...

At one time, logging companies -- I can hear the hissing and booing --
anyway, they were looking into balloons to lift logs out of forests. Why
not the other way around? Balloons to lift the heavy stuff into the trail
areas.

Egads! I am never again going

*** Word to the wise. Be careful of your legs when doing rock work.
Use the chaps and shin guards. The injuries don't show up right away and can
show up years later in leg difficulties. Stick with a large crew for such
jobs.

Let the machinery like the cable hoists and other do the work where
possible and get help with heavy rocks. Maybe some hiker/engineer will
invent a trail building machine that eliminates the worst of the lifting. My
ideal would be a transportable mini backhoe/loader with a trail building
design. One built to navigate backwoods without damage and negotiate narrow
trail passes. It would have a winch device to hoist in the big stones for
rockwork. The ideal being a work helicopter owned by ATC for lowering
pallets of trailwork stones down into the site. The stones could then be
prepared off-site allowing less near-Trail damage...
