A marvelous revelation, since it has been my belief for decades. My first clue
came when I read that stretching was most useful after the joints warmed up,
i.e. one should walk for 5 or 10 minutes before stretching.

So I started out each morning "warming up" before stretching. Then I noticed
that this being the trail with its many "pointless ups and downs" (PUDS) I
almost always had stretched at least as much getting warmed up as the stretching
regime required.

Being "prescient" I decided to simply let the trail do whatever stretching the
trail demanded. This "regime change" has now worked for 32 years, 4 months, two
weeks and one day. :)
