[at-l] slow hike #1 - 03/23/2003

i just ate a huge bacon cheeseburger at rivers end restaurant at the nantah=
ala river.  a bunch of us, including laura and sabina, opened the joint at =
11am.  eight people, not including me, have decided to run the river.  the =
weather is spectacular, and the river is inviting...

art cloutman and john should be hiking in later today, and i'll be here to =
greet them.  i intend on thumbing to bryson city and snagging motel room, s=
o that i can turn on CNN...

the wesser bald shelter filled up late in the day yesterday, with some peop=
le coming in after dark.  we had a great fire going.  the stars were aplent=
y=2E..

the hike down to the nantahala river was more sedate than i remember, or el=
se i was in a better frame of mind.  i cruised the 5.7 miles, getting to th=
e river shortly after 10am...
