Based on an off list question, if you have a general interest, I would
recommend two hitch (not hike) side trips -- the first, both GAME hiking and
historically, is Manassas/Bull Run and then the last, both GAME hiking and
historically, is Gettysburg.

If you have the time, spend a couple days at Gettysburg.  Manassas/Bull Run
is an easy one dayer.

If you must pick only one, go to Gettysburg.

OTOH, if you can squeeze in another, add Antietam -- which conveniently both
GAME hiking and historically is in between.
