Partly due to the unfortunate problems of liability.  Nobody likes to work
someone's spine...

Have you tried tractioning him on the floor?  Just gently stretching him out
might give him some relief.

Be glad to lend you my 20* bag.  It's synthetic, big, heavy (3+ pounds),
cheap, and red, but it is warm.
