Please note the "might" in the above comment. The data book format is pretty
generic. The "format" that might be subject to copyright, would be pretty subtle
and only subtle changes would avoid a violation. Merely shifting the direction
to south to north, may be enough, as would, perhaps, simply leaving out
references to Guide Book sections.

The change that I hope Wingfoot has made is to calculate the mileages from
Springer or Katahdin. I never really cared about the distance to a state line. I
wanted to know how far I had come from Springer, and, more importantly, how many
miles I had left before reaching Katahdin, without being forced to do a lot
thumbing through pages and a lot of arithmetic.

I'm still awaiting my copy of the Thru Hikers Guide. It should be in the mail
soon. I may have a different opinion once it arrives.

BTW. My only data book dates from 1993. Has the format changed since then?
