I did.  And was quite thankful when I dislocated my
shoulder, and got some sort of intestinal distress and
went to the dr's office twice while I was hiking.  I
paid for 6 months' worth of insurance up front before
I left.  (That became a little bit of an issue since I
was only gone for 4 months and had to organize a
refund from my previous employer.)
