[at-l] Smokies section hike

Hi Jim,

I for one hope to run into you out there. (You too, Sly. Bring food.)

I'm thinking I'll hit Fontana Dam around March 24. Though I'm starting
March 1, I have to get the Trail at Neel's Gap for five days, bummer,
but there was no way to wriggle out of it. So even with that
interlude, it's likely I'll have gotten a bit ahead of your schedule.

However, you're doing just what I did - go out into NC and meet
thru-hikers, talk to them about their gear, their experiences. Before
I had this list, going out to meet that rare bird "thru-hiker" was
like going to school.
I met some great folks I still correspond with, and all were generous
and eager to share with a "hopeful," since they had BEEN that hopeful
just three or four weeks earlier.
It's some of my best outdoor memories ever. Sometimes solitude is
good, sometimes the company of kindred spirits is good.
It's all good.
Maybe see ya out there,
Jan
