That's a great plan.  By the time you reach Virginia you should be able to
cruise, relativiely speaking,  the rest of they way and get to Maine at an
awesome time during the fall.

Plus, you'll have more time to get in better shape and pare your packweights
down in order to have a even more enjoyable hike.
