"Another indication are the detailed records kept by the Ferry Man, employed
by the ATC, at the Kennebec River.  Steve L. used to post his numbers on
line, and they were broken down by status-- thru-hiker, day hiker, section
hiker, SOBO, NOBO, observed walkers etc."

We'll all miss Steve the Ferryman. The MATC will be hard pressed to find his
equal.
And don't forget the records kept for the ATC by Bruce White, the chief
Ranger at Katahdin Stream Campground. AT '02ers will remember him, as 'chief'
isn't quite right. He didn't get a helper until August, and then only took
two evenings a week off.
And for what it's worth, he says only 3 out of 4 through hikers take the
"2000 miler" application when he offers it.
