IMHO, A FAQ is nice, but there's a few problems:

- Things change, people learn, new equipment, etc.

- New people, with diverse experience, don't get to add to the
collective knowledge  in an interactive manner.

- New subscribers are less likely to get help, since they'll be scolded
by FAQ-nazis.

- The answers that people (especially newbies) have been getting here
are extremely high quality and add to the sense of community.

- A single, personal, experienced viewpoint carries more weight with
many people than an instititution claiming to be the authority on something.

- Many questions have more than one right answer, as many answers are
just opinions and not facts.
