       I fully agree.  I understand that any useful list is bound to have
quite a few messages, and that not every message will be of interest to every
reader.  But the AT-L far exceeds every other list I subscribe to (and I do
subscribe to quite a few others, mostly relating to railroads) in terms of
the percentage of messages that not only are of little interest to me, but
that have nothing to do with the purpose of the list.  On some days, the
percentage of such messages on the AT-L probably exceeds 90%.  My solution is
to set up a separate AOL screen name for use just for this list, and then
look at it whenever I want, ignoring it when I don't want to bother reading
all the garbage that gets posted to this list (and that, unfortunately, is
much of the time).

       This has been discussed many times before, but the problem still
exists, and to the same degree that it always has.  I've pretty much given up
on trying to change things, since it seems that a small group of people who
account for most of the posts on the list like it this way.  But it is very
discouraging to others who want to join.
