There are some restaurants where you don't, by default, get a fork.  I
think
I eventually caved and asked for one though.

Re chopsticks:  I was aghast to discover that I hadn't brought mine on my
most recent overnight.  I had to scavenge some sticks and whittle them.
They did a dandy job.
