[at-l] Sleeping Bag Question

what kind of sleeping pad are you using underneath it? Are you a cold or
warm sleeper in general? I've been using a north face blue kazoo for many
years now. I use it year round, zip it open into a sort of blanket in ythe
summer and zip it all the way up in the winter. I use a 3/4 ultralight
thermarest under it as well as a closed cell foam pad under my feet. ive
only had a few uncomfortable winter nights so far mostly because i slipped
off my sleeping pad. Ive used in the georgia mountains year round as well
as new england in the fall (late sept - oct).

If your gerneally a warm sleeper and maybe carry a few extra warm clothes
"just in case" and use a tent, I tihnk you should be fine.

a tent? Well, as long as your shelter keeps the wind off. a cold night in
an open AT shelter? a lot chillier than inside a tent. a Tarp? I dont use
one yet but I would emagine as long as you pitch it corrdctly, it should be
just as comfortable as the tent...

I realize that you do get what you pay for with sleeping bags. I was looking
at Campmor bags, and they have a 20 degree 550 down bag for $149,and is
currently on sale for $119. Would a 550 down be good enough with a liner for
those cold spring nights? I also realize the bag probably won't last long
term, but price is a big concern for me. The bag weighs 2.6 pounds. I can't
afford a Feathered Friends bag,but am up for any suggestions.
