[at-l] Re: [hikersRus] Journal Pictures

I must say, I don't think there are many places on the AT where the
water is knee-deep for miles and the mud steals shoes, so there are
such things as rigorous trails in Florida. :-)

I had pictures from a trip to the Everglades on the same roll as
pictures from a ski trip to NC. Flipping through the pictures after I
got the film developed, I was struck by the flatness of this part of
Florida! One picture was of Sugar Mtn, NC and the very next, a picture
of the absolutely straight horizon seen when looking out over the
Everglades! The comparison was unbelievable. I knew we didn't have
mountains, but the difference never registered I guess. While driving
in the Everglades, we came upon signs marking the elevation: 4 feet or
6 feet in a hammock. I think the highest point in my town is about
20'. I'm either going to have to go north for training, make do with
gym equipment and stairs, or my favorite, OTT training. :-)

Happy hiking or slogging,
Teresa
