[at-l] Protein/Fat/Carbo combo

there's more to this story though isn't there? protein, fats and carbs all provide your body fuel in different ways and for different amounts of time. Ideally, you want just enough Fat to provide quick energy and last for no more than (thinking hard to remember) 10 minutes? Then the Carbs kick in and last for 20 or 30 minutes(??) when the Protein is onboard and keeps you going for the next several hours.
The combination is the reason it all works. Fats and carbs slow the proteins so that you don't bonk too quickly after eating.

I remember reading the story of Shackelton's experience on Antarctica. They only ate protein for the duration after their food stores ran out and they could only work for a few minutes each day.

So to add to Phil's question, What is the proper proportion for calories and metabolism?

Alert, you dietitian backpackers! What would be the "ideal" combo of Fat/Protein/Carbos percentage wise for a backpacker? I know YMMV and IMHO, and all that, but give me a respectable number.

With fats coming in at approx. 255 cal. per oz., and carbs and proteins at about 113 cal. per oz. each, I'm wondering what a "proper" mix would yield per pound of weight.

For example, if the three were equally mixed at one third fat, one third carbs and one third protein, then the mix would be approx. 2565 cal. per pound. That would equal 5130 calories per 2 lbs. of food weight, not counting packaging.

So, give me you idea of a proper mix, and I will do the other figuring.
