I was up on Blue Mountain in PA (above Palmerton) last fall during hunting 
season - the mix was 50/50 hunters and hikers (it's State Game Lands).  
Nobody was taking wild shots, but you could hear them as you walked.  The 
corridor is closed to hunting, but, as noted, lead doesn't see very well and 
tends to go in a straight line.  Most of the PA hunters understand their 
proximity to the trail and pay attention IMHO.  YMMV.
