My two cents on this issue (as a newbie) is that using the web forum
rather than email alleviates the problem. I found the mass of emails
overwhelming (regardless of whether they were on or off topic) so coming
to the forum once a day and sorting the topics according to "Most
Recently Posted" means I read only the topics I chose, and still get to
see the most active threads.

Just the way I dealt with the issue.
