I can answer for the Jerry Cabin Shelter registers, which were put there by
the shelter/trail maintainer, Sam Waddle. When full, he replaced them and
kept all the old ones. They have now been donated to the A.T. Museum and are
in storage at my house until the museum gets a building to call its own.
Anyone with trail memorabilia to donate to the museum can have it picked up
by their area's museum committee rep. and it will eventually be placed in the
museum. I'm the rep. for GA/NC (and east TN?). (Contact Larry Luxenburg
to find out your area's rep....atmuseum@aldha.org or hiker778@aol.com or
845-634-0581.) Some registers are kept my the maintaining club. Some get
mailed back to individuals who placed them. There's no hard and fast rule,
unfortunately. (Personally, I'd like to see them all in the Museum, some day.)
This subject was discussed previously, so you might want to search the AT-L
archives and see what was said.
