Actually, they do--women who stop menstruating because of extreme weight
loss or intense athletic activity have a decrease in their bone mineral
content, which puts them at a much greater risk of osteoporosis and stress
fractures. Although I gotta say, not menstruating would sure be a plus on
the trail!
