I've spent time in Alaska, and worked with the Gwich'in, and this is not an
insignificant part of this issue.

It reminds me of two summers ago, after I had prayed my way up Bear Butte in
South Dakota.  On my way up I had shared some time with an Apache teen
(about 16 years old) and his grandmother.  He was on his first pilgrimage to
this sacred spot.  She on her last.   At the top of the mountain I came
across two men who were loudly arguing about real estate prices in Fairfax
Virginia.  They were oblivious to where they were.

Sometimes I think we all are oblivious, but maybe we can try to listen.
