Well, one of the first things I learned on the trail was that the first
four inches of floor space around the back and sides of the shelter belong
to the mice. Arriving tired and near dark at a shelter in Va, in my haste
to collapse into sleep I neglected to allow for the mice highway, and awoke
in the wee hours of the morning to something scrabbling against my forehead
trying to find traction. I only woke up enough to reach up and push against
the back wall, moving me and all my stuff down four inches, and then went
back to sleep. Try to explain this to non-hikers and they just shake their
heads.... <g>
