I have the Vapor but it's mush the same as the Flight...
The ice axe loops are removable without tearing anything. It just takes a
lot of work. I ended up using a shim of some sort to help push the loops
out. Just keep trying.
I find that I use just one compression strap. I keep the bottom of the pack
full enough that I don't need compression there, but as I eat my food or
wear clothes on a cold day, the top of my pack caneasily become empty enough
to need that compression. Without the compression straps, gear can shift in
your pack. While that's not usually an issue except to be annoying, if you
are ever off balance, that's when it's likley to shift even more and perhaps
contribute to a fall.
That's why I dfind it worthwhile to use just one compression strap.
