[at-l] Pot-pourri

Saunterer -
The reference I promised you:

http://www.awea.org/pubs/factsheets/avianfs.pdf

For Rick Boudrie:
Good site - but it doesn't change the fact that except for initial siting
considerations (flyways, raptor concentrations, etc.) it's not a
consideration as to whether or not to build an installation - which was
RnR's contention.

If you believe the the Maine installation is in a flyway or in a heavy
raptor concentration area, then, if you can prove it, it might give Weary
some decent ammunition. Go for it. Otherwise you're wasting bandwidth by
generalizing what was a series of very site-specific statements and a set of
comparative numbers that define the overall magnitude of the bird kill
"problem".

In general - "An Appalachian Trail: A Project in Regional Planning" by
Benton MacKaye can be found at: http://www.fred.net/kathy/at/mackaye.html

Those who are at all interested should read it for themselves. RnR
obviously reads it through his own filter and has no idea what it actually
says. Others may or may not understand it, but overlay it with their own
biases and interpretations.

Question - how does one explain MacKaye's praise of Tamiment in light of our
local revisionist claims for his "wilderness" predilictions?

Second question - RnR was asked to provide MacKayes definitions of
wilderness. Where are they, RnR? Or don't you know? You seem to have a
lot of time to generate bullshit - how about some real facts for a change?

Walk softly,
Jim
