Strang was the self proclaimed "Mormon King". He was assigned by Joseph
Smith to form a branch in Wisconsin. When Smith was killed, Strang
pronounced himself as Smith's heir, and was challenged by Bringham Young.
Receiving his directive from God, Strang settled on the Island in 1948 and
proclaimed himself King. His ousting off the Island was actually instigated
by a mob from Mackinac Island, and not the Irish. Strang was assasinated by
his own followers in 1956. The Irish fisherman settled on Beaver Island
after the Mormons had left.

These are the historical facts.
