The AT did not have a single "creator."  In fact the originator of the
concept bowed out of much of its creation (over the departure from his
concept), only to return to the fold as it came to reality.

So, if one wants to look at its creators' concepts, one need look far beyond
"An Appalachian Trail, A Project in Regional Planning."

In fact, the trail (both as originally constructed and as it evolved)
departs in many, many significant ways from the  _Journal...._ article.
