[at-l] re: Book list for the holidays

Excellent book. Not a survival story like Shackleton,
but more of a personal quest type journey, if a bit
more cold and dark than a thru-hike on the AT. :-)

I was fortunate enough to see him present a slide show
when I live in Ft. Collins. Cool Guy (Alas, the
independent book store where the slide show was
presented was put out of business by a Barnes and
Nobles...arghh.)

My contribution to the the book list:

"The Nick Adams Stories" by Hemmingway.

Just finished reading them for the first time last
month. Set in the upper peninsular (U.P.) of Michigan,
they are short stories about Nick Adams from his
childhood to adulthood. Makes the U.P. sound like
Maine, if a bit less mountainous. Not about the
outdoors per se, but the stories take place in an
outdoor setting. The usual Hemmingway material:
personal honor, regrets, things that could have been
different.

(And according to a good friend of mine who is from
Michigan, the U.P. is still fairly remote.)
