[at-l] Mislabeling bottles and hiker dumb "mistakes"

Well, I will add mine in here,

I bought a new stove and tried it out at home and it worked great... But
the fuel bottle was not as big as I likes and since I was *suppose* to fill
it only 3/4 full I was worried if I would have enough fuel for me and my
party. So I filled the bottle full and went merrily on my way. I arrived
at the site with my party and I was going to start supper so out popped the
brand new stove.... (my pride and joy) I beamed like a new father as I set
it up, hooked up the *full* fuel bottle. Pumped up the pressure in the fuel
bottle... lit a match and opened the fuel valve... My stove went up in an
inferno.... White gas was spewing everywhere.... I reached in disconnected
the fuel link and put out the residual fires in the small surrounding
area... My pride and joy, just minutes ago so shiny and new was well
blackened. You ask where were my friends were... They were rolling
laughing too hard to lend any assistance... With a bruised ego and a not so
new stove I attempted to make dinner and redeem myself....

The funny thing is that I don't have a trail name and I never got one from
that experience... I thought for sure that would have labeled me...

The update on this is that hiker and stove are both doing fine and are
going out again this weekend.

Speaking of the importance of labeling a bottle when something else is in
it:

One of the last hikes, I put fuel (ETOH) into an empty water bottle and did
not label it. Sure, I would remember which one it was! But, waking up with
sleepers it my eyes, I reached for the *wrong* bottle and wiped my eyes with
the contents. NOT a pleasant experience. My friend had to use all of our
precious water (on top of Blood where there is NONE) to rinse out my eyes.
Luckily, no real damage...but quite a bit of pain! And sure did feel dumb!!

Hmmm...interesting topic. What was the "dumbest" hiker related thing YOU
ever did?? NOW confess!!!

Something like burning yourself....right, OB??
