Funny, the "funny toes" don't always act up.
Never around town, almost never hiking without weight (the smash factor
increases the likelyhood.)

The "pinch incidents" are worse in my Montrail Javas, almost
non-exisitamt in the New Balance 804s (bigger toe box). But I have had
to tape toes in both models. They do seem to "behave" better for a few
days after taping tho.
Who knows why? When they hurt me, I tape the knife-edge upright again.
It makes all the difference in comfort.
