[at-l] What's a fair split of a communal load?

for that reason, I'd recommend not splitting much gear - or having a
duplicate somewhere between all of you. Like 2 stoves, maybe a main one and
someone having an esbit or something just in case. everyone having their
own tent / tarp or at least 2 2-mans. this time of year, a tarp should be
fine and not too costly. Its always a good idea to have a couple filters or
duplicate water purifying methods just cuz w/ one the person w/ the filter
or whatever spends way too much time sitting at the creek pumping away to
get water for 4 people... also, since you cant or won't want to always hike
attached to each other - you will need to get more water when you are alone.
I once hiked w/ a good friend and we used my water filter. She got to the
top of the hill & water source way before I did and sat up there really hot
& thirsty cuz she had no way to get water out of the puddle in a deep spring
box source. she was out of water and thinking of coming down after me when
I got there... she grabbed my water bottle for a swig while I pumped into
her's. after looking at her thirsty face, I vowed to never hike w/o my own
water access system.

And what do you do when 1 cuts and runs after a few days &
the other 2 want to stay on?
