Yes, this is true.  Copyright also extends to any
content or design on web sites.  Basically, copyright
protects content, no matter the media used (personal
letter, book, artwork, music, websites) and no matter
whether the originator has officially filed for
copyright protection.  A court of law will hold
copyright up in the case of contention.
