Kahley, I have no idea. Nor do I have the time, or inclination to find out. IN my experience the
National Park Service and the Forest Service have been far too timid about protecting the trail. It
is up to the critics to tell ME when these agencies have been too aggressive.

I'm trying desperately to reduce my commitments. My wife, who recovered after six months of a
potentially fatal illness, has just been relieved of the responsibility of caring for an 88-year-old
father. I want to thru hike. She wants to travel and see the country. I'm responsible for producing
tabloid newspapers for three environmental organizations, trying to keep a land trust active,
rescuing my kids from time to time, harvesting my garden -- and paying my bills.
