[at-l] Re journal suggestions

Russ

I don't know what year journal you may want to read but I have read =
quite a few from 1999 the year we hiked.=20

In an ealier post I mentioned Jilebi's wonderful journal which is found =
at www.trailplace.com under the name june james. It is detailed and =
talks a lot about the fauna and flora.

There are many more wonderful journal there.

Singlemalt also has a great journal. He is very descriptive and gives =
lots of background of the area he is going through and its history. =
Many nice pictures also including one spectacular one at macaffee's =
knob. and a good one of Baltimore Jack who is out doing his 6th =
consecutive thru hike this year

Another website with lots of journals is www.trailjournals.com. which =
was created by 1999 thru hiker Zip drive. I noticed that he is hosting =
nearly 60 journals for 2001 thru hikers.
The wonderful thing about this site is that each hiker has a separate =
entry for each day, and at the bottom of the entry there is information =
and links to other hiker journals for that same day. This site also has =
tons of great pictures.

In any event there are some good 1999 journals there. Of particular =
interest is Wyoming Skateboarders's journal which he is presently =
writing and posting. Wyoming started in February 1999 and finished in =
January 2000 in Harper's ferry after flipping to Maine and heading =
south.. His journal is now up to May 1999. His first weeks were in =
winter weather and he was faced with such things as pneumonia, =
hypothermia, frozen water bottles, losing his food, freezing rain, =
snow,etc.. He persisted and finished the whole trail. He was likely the =
most well known person on the trail that year. Fascinating reading.
