[at-l] Pole damage

I also use the removable rubber tips. I orginally got them to prevent
personal and luggage injury during transport. About a year ago, I was two
or three miles into a day hike when I realized I had never taken the rubber
tips off, it was working, so I left them on. Now I only use the bare tips
during stream crossings, on icy sections and other slippery spots, and when
I use the poles as fly supports. Don't see how this is all that much
different from the traditional hiking staff in trail impact.

Now...can we talk about that annoying kaspoing, kaspoing noise of those
shock absorber thingies???

For the record, they can be removed and replaced as needed. I have them
and use them this way. Also use them without the tips. Also use a stick
with a rubber tip from an old pair of crutches. No "one world view"
here.
