[at-l] tuckerizing

Take all the good advice, realize that it's given with the best of
intentions and make your own decisions about what to carry - or not
carry.

Very good(if not great) advice!
It's funny how things happen. I've spent the last year figuring out what
I might carry on a thru, read a bunch of books, past thru-hikers gear
lists, yes read Jims thru-hiking papers(3 0r 4 times), and still had the
guts to post a gear list, go figure! :^) To be honest tho, I really
didn't figure on listening too much anyways. I'm bull-headed that way,
just ask Landslides! But anyways, I mainly posted a gear list knowing
that everyone would jump on this or that, but, then it gives others that
can't get away and do a thru something to do. :^)) There's a lot of
great advice out there, I've found that out, and some that I've just
shaken my head at! One thing I think needs to be remembered is that,
it's a alot different to go "play" in the woods for a few days, or
weeks, but much different to be there for months on end. Yes, I already
hear ya, "a thru-hike is really just one week long hike after another",
and, "if and/or when I do it, again, I'll not carry....X", you get the
point. But to be there for months take a few creature comforts. Yeah
everything thats added in the pack weighs, thats a given, but as was
mentioned, everyones zone is different. I've never done a long distance
hike, haven't even done years of backpacking, so it's good to hear from
others. But to be frank,(or Daryl), I'll learn like everyone else did.
Yeah, I might not carry what you would, but isn't that what makes us all
different?
As I said, I knew when I posted my gear list, that it would be
Tuckerized, thats part of the fun. But the really funny thing is, when
the replies started flowing in I felt like I'd made all these huge
mistakes! A year of planning for nothing. To be honest, it even Ticked
me off a little. Kinda wished I hadn't even posted in the first place.
Even let this be known to a few. But then I sat down, cooled down, and
decided to carry what "I" wanted to. If it doesn't work, if I have too
much, or too little, then I could always fix it. Thats the real fun of
learning!
As always, YMMV! Have fun with it, be willing to try something
different, but follow your gut, it'll get you thru!
Thanks Jim for reminding me of that, and yeah, I think I'll go read your
papers again!

p.s.- if you disagree with any of this, thats ok, but just don't forget
to send the cookies, I love Oreos, there heavy, but they won't be in the
pack long! :^))
