distinctions (was Re: [at-l] look at me stunts)

I agree with Ramkitten on this one. I'm am here on
this list for a few reasons that have absolutely
NOTHING to do with "look at me, I'm a thru-hiker."
Here they are in no particular order. First, I'm
trying to remain connected to the trail in whatever
form I can (it begins to seem surreal after awhile).
Second, I want to talk to people who have a similar
interest, the A.T., whatever your approach may be ---
section-hiker, occasional day hiker, thru-hiker,
whatever. I don't discriminate on that -- I don't
care about the distinction. Maybe this is still a
vet/non-vet kind of thing. BUT, my definition of
a vet (see above) is pretty inclusive. Third, I'm
trying to offer whatever experience of mine that
can be of use to others. I'm also here to learn from
what others on the list want to teach as well.
Fourth and this one may seem strange, I am on this
list to commune with my pre-hike self to see if I can
understand the trail's effect on me...to see where
I have been and where I am now. In other words, to
remember some of the questions and fears and hopes
that I had leading up to the trail and to remember
how I adapted to changing circumstances. Its part
of taking what I learned there and remembering the
same way of dealing can be applied to anything in
my life.
