Before the Bondage jokes begin, I'll help you tie things up, GMC!
I bet you just double tie the loops, don't you? Try taking the single shoe
lace end with the loop too, and granny knotting all 'three'.
If that doesn't work for you, you can try tape. In college we'd use white
athletic tape over the knot, but to stay true to the hiker ethic you might
try Duct Tape :O)
