A couple weeks ago I walked the length of the Maryland section of the AT.
The trail was literally covered with newly fallen leaves and the underlying
rocks and roots were impossible to see.

At least twice a day a rock would roll under foot and my ankle would lay
over, supported only by the boots I was wearing.  Regardless of my ankle
strength, I am convinced I would have been laid low if I hadn't been wearing
boots providing at least partial support.
