I have chafed in mesh lined pants, but on inner thighs. I suspect that you 
and your skin are in better shape after getting experienced in hiking. The 
problem occurs with any abrasion, even skin to skin abrasion if you were 
nude. My chafing occurred from the abrasion of skin on fabric below the 
mesh. Simply wearing Capalenes or other wicking fabric would have prevented it.
