I agree with everything Sloetoe said ( I meant to say all that, but
just don't have the time...)

I can't reiterate enough the part about LOTS of snack meals. My two
like beef jerky and sausage and cheese and crackers, and a bunch of
other stuff they never ate at home. Candy bars are a must, let them
pick their favorite and then be prepared to share yours! Dry cereal
w/o milk, most children have no problem eating dry Sugar Smacks or
whatever, few like the taste of dry milk though. Mine will eat dry
cereal for breakfast, snack and lunch!

AND THEN:

LET THEM LEAD THE WAY, they will stay interested longer and pace
themselves without any help from you. Stop frequently, especially
whenever they want to, and forget about your schedule, don't plan on
making more than 6-8 miles a day. Most six year olds can do 10 miles,
but not day after day.
