Does anyone know anything more about this? Like where in the Smokies?
It was about 2 mi up the Little River trail out of the Elkmont campground.
Very close to a lot of people. A very popular and easy trail. I have even
seen people pushing baby strollers up the little river trail!!
I am unsure of the fact in the story originally posted to the list that said
the couple hiked from Gatlinburg??
Local media and park officials are reporting it as a very unusual attack
because the woman's food in her day pack was found 50 yards away from her
body and was untouched by the bears. The victim was a Sevier County local
and should have known common sense methods of self-defense.
There is a lot of hype in the Knoxville media. I almost screamed at the TV
when the "info-babe" made the comment about park officials "protecting the
public from the bears". Hell....... the bears need protection from the
public.
