Re: [at-l] Stephenson's inquiry
They probably could be called eccentric. They make superb equipment. I
have a tent, VB shirt, VB socks, and poncho (on order). All are very high
quality. The tent is what they are best known for. The 2R (the 2X is
lighter still) is an exceptionally roomy, over 40 square feet but I can't
recall the exact number, 2-person tent that can weigh as little as 2lb
15oz. Mine, which has the extra door zipper and side windows, tips the
scales at something like 3lb 4oz. The tent is a 4 season wonder. It'll
stand up to pretty much anything that can be thrown at it. If you take
decent care of the tnet it'll last for years and years.
The VB shirt works wonderfully. It keeps you warm in cold temepratures
just as it should. Vapor barrier clothing really does work when used
properly. This is also true for the socks (though I only use those in
winter camping).
People will tell you that Jack Stephenson can be hard to work with. That
may be true, but I've not had a problem. My impression is that if you ask
for something that special you had better be able to justify it. Chance
are it has been asked for before and NOT worked out.
