[at-l] belt/fanny pouch help

I'm trying to find a small belt/fanny pouch that I can put just a few 
essential items in. In this case "essential items" are a trail map and 
guide (for the AT) plus maybe a couple ditties.  I have found fanny packs 
that are either too small or too big. Ideally what I really want is 
something I can run a hip belt through and wear vertically (i.e., it 
hangs down my thigh instead of wrapping around my waste). 

Anyone got any bright ideas they care to share?
