[at-l] ReinGear question

>>> Tim Scott <timscott@aprisma.com> 04/20/00 09:48AM >>>
I have selected MOST of what I need for new gear to accomplish this, but I am unsure about raingear, which can be quite heavy.
I was wondering what the rest of you guys carry and why. -Chomp 99

On my throughhike, I started with a miserable, ineffective GoreTex shell. That shell was stolen in Waynesboro around the middle of June. I was left with a baseball cap, and actually found that perfectly passable June-early August/southern Vermont. I received an Early Winters GoreTex shell upon leaving Connecticut, and wore it through *numerous* storms through Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. (Although, half the time, I was moving fast enough, or the rain was light enough, that I'd just hike in shorts and baseball. Also, in Hanover I picked up 60/40 gaiters, and loved 'em so much I wore them every day for the rest of the hike.

Currently, I have a *very* simple GoreTex shell (from Campmor) which is also very light. It's my bud. That and the baseball cap. And now, my good friend CoolMax. Yummy.

btw, frogtogs sound *very* interesting. I tend to be pretty easy on my gear, so "fragiity" questions about frogtogs don't bother me at all. And their CHEAP. And their LIGHT. Ahhhh, the new millenium.
