Re: [at-l] Cell phone sense of security

This thread makes me think of something that happened a couple of weeks ago.
I was meeting a friend at my workplace and we were going to go from there to
the AT for a weekend hike. Because he wasn't sure where my business was, we
agreed to take cell phones so we could locate each other if there were
problems meeting.

The issue then became, when we got to the trailhead, what to do with the
phones? We didn't want to leave them in the truck to be stolen. We both
mumbled an apology and assured the other that the phone was off and tucked
them into the bottom of our packs.

I do sometimes carry the cell phone but because I am worried about breaking
down on the highway on the way to the trail rather than I using it while
hiking.
