[at-l] killing mice

Every once in awhile I just have to log in a an issue which has absolutely
no significance to the trail. Killing mice at the shelters is one of them.
I admit it (Hawkeye, you want to jump in on the chorus), it is just plain
fun watching the little critters bite the dust. I consider it the moral
equivalent of slapping a mosquito.

Don't get me wrong, I don't set mouse traps in shelters to lessen the mouse
population, or protect myself from them. It is just the evil within me that
enjoys the blood sport of it. I don't get up in the middle of the night to
reset traps. Believe me, they will all be tripped before you go to sleep.

Also, please don't try to make me feel guilty by saying that they were there
first. If it weren't for the hikers being so sloppy and leaving food all
over the place, they wouldn't be there at all. That is why you have so few
visits by them when camping away from the shelters.

I have stayed at some of the most mice infected shelters on the trail and
have never considered them to be a problem. However, I don't consider it a
problem to zap the little vermin, either.
