Porcupines are not really something to be overly concerned about, unless of 
course you stay at Mount Wilcox South Shelter. From about Salisbury CT north 
to Hanover, consider hanging your pack and boots each night. North and south 
of that section, it seems they're significantly less of a factor to hikers. 
Even within that section, there are only a few spots where porcupines have 
created a significant reputation for themselves. I've never heard of a hiker 
being chased by one, but I suppose it's possible.
