They had to take them out of the Smokies.  They still have the signs up  in
Cade's Cove, though, announcing the re-introduction.  I asked one of the
park people if the red wolves hadn't removed.  Reluctantly, he said Yes,
that some were sick.  Never one to back down, I said that I'd read that the
problem was that they were attacking the cows that are in Cade's Cove under
contract with farmers, and that the farmers had demanded that they be taken
out.  Even more reluctantly, he admitted, "Yes, that, too."  I don't know
about further into NC.  Leslie
