Re: [at-l] Re: Great Barrington Parking Info

Thanks Cosmo. This is the time at work when we are told to get in our vacation
leave requests, so this is Section Hike Planning week. I have identified 8 hikes
needed for me to finish up the South and lower New England:
1. Hot Springs -> the Nolichucky
2. Newfound Gap -> Wesser (but where to park?)
3. Dicks Creek Gap -> Wesser
4. Amicalola (oh boy!) -> Dicks Creek Gap
5. Vt 11 -> North Adams
6. North Adams -> Gt Barrington
7. Gt Barrington -> Cornwall Bridge
8. Cornwall Bridge -> RPH Shelter

I mostly hike north in the South and south in the North - I live in Virginia. I
only have
enough leave to hike 6 of these hikes this year, so I will put the Nantahalas and
the
CN hike off until next year. Also, I ALWAYS overplan, or my knees give out, or
whatever; I will be happy if I get 4 of these done this year. Still, you never
know...

Sections are what I can do in 4-6 days, with reasonably safe parking and a
potential
shuttler. I plan around 3 day weekends (I get every other Friday off) with a day
or 3 of leave thrown in. I start driving as soon as I get off from work, camp
somewhere
(Promised Land or Fox Gap in PA and Claytor Lake or Troutville (dale?) in VA) at
dark, get up at 4:00 am, drive to meet my shuttle (several of you who have
shuttled me
will be smiling by this time) and try to get in 10 to 15 miles the first day.

The plan this year: NY 4/7 (or 4/21), TN 5/5, GA 5/27, VT 6/27, MA 7/28, GSM 9/22
(So Mass will be in Late July).

Pity the logistical nightmares of the Poor Section Hiker (PSH, pronounced Pish -
might
make a good trailname ;). Cosmo, I will be in touch.

- Gary from Fairfax , 1180 miles - Ginny called me a "Serious" section hiker at
the Ruck
and I glowed for 10 minutes ;) (And thanks again to the Weathercarrot, who also
reported the MA 23 parking).
