I vote go the mail drop route over buying your grub and supplies on the way
for several reasons.Reason # 1, Some resupply points are very limited in
items and prices are almost always top dollar. # 2, Buy at home cheaply and
have what need ( you can put small amounts of boots grease, film, batteries,
vitamins, shoes laces etc. in box ) # 3, Some heavy equipment may only be
used for short periods of time , like ice axes and crampons which can be
shipped to weldon and shipped back at a later drop. #4 Things like socks ,
shoulder straps, hip belts and boots soles will wear out. These can be placed
in your mail drops at needed times by suppport team back home. # 5, You can
still have anything that someone who buys all along the trail has. Nothing is
stopping you from buying things in town that non-mail drop users buy ( if you
bring plastic or money ) 6 #, With the mail-drop plan, two pairs of boots can
be rotated as needed for resoling or by using light boots on non-snow
sections and a sturdier boots for snow sections. PS Beldon no longer takes
mail drops at store. Also the Cassel was a post office that can be used
instead of Old Station and has a General Store. ( as an option )
Letters from home ,gifts from well wishers, paper backs and map sections can
all be added to your mail drop. ( Where am I going with this???? ) It's just
one hiker's view!!
